Credit history: how to check your own information for free
Checking credit information is useful beyond a new loan application. It can help you understand recorded commitments, compare settled agreements with your documents and notice unfamiliar information. One official source in Lithuania is the Loan Risk Database, known as PRDB, administered by the Bank of Lithuania.
Where should you start?
Open the official PRDB page and choose a method listed there for accessing your own information. The Bank of Lithuania states that individuals and legal entities can access their commitment data free of charge. Electronic access requires identity verification, and the page also describes application-based alternatives.
What should you review?
- Do you recognise the creditors and agreements?
- Does the status or balance conflict with your documents?
- Does a settled agreement still appear active?
- Does the information concern the correct person and period?
Compare the information with the agreement, latest schedule and payment confirmations. A transfer alone may not explain how a provider allocated money between principal, interest and fees. Ask for a specific explanation where necessary.
What if something is inaccurate?
Identify the disputed entry and contact the reporting provider through official details. Supply the documents needed to explain the issue and keep its response. Correct but unfavourable information is not an error solely because a new application was declined. Be cautious about paid services promising to erase a credit history permanently.
Is the record a credit score?
A database extract and a lender’s decision are different things. A provider may assess additional information, sustainable income and its own criteria. A clear record does not guarantee acceptance. Information missing from one source does not prove that no other commitments exist.
Protect the information
Use officially published access routes. Never give Smart-ID PINs, banking passwords or authentication access to someone offering to arrange a loan. Do not publish a complete extract or personal identification number. If an entry concerns an agreement you did not make, contact the named provider promptly.
Instructions and access links are on the official PRDB page. If you have late payments, also read what to consider before another application.
